Monastery and Virgin Mary Church – Adawia. The “Floating Bible” is seen on a display inside this Coptic Orthodox Church. The Bible was found floating in the Nile River outside the Church on 12 March 1976. Despite being waterlogged, it was open to the page of Isaiah 19:25, a passage that in part reads, “Blessed be Egypt my people”.

Ben Ezra Synagogue with its cool marble floors. Lore has it that the Nile once flowed up behind the synagogue, and there, in the reeds, baby Moses was hidden and subsequently found by Pharaoh’s daughter (Exodus 2: 1-10).

The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, known commonly as the Egyptian Museum or Museum of Cairo, in Cairo, Egypt, is home to an extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities. It has approximately 160,000 items covering 5,000 years of Egypt’s past. Among the displayed artifacts are two statues of King Tutankhamun made of cedar wood and covered with gold, a statue of King Akhenaten, ushabti statues that belonged to the Nubian kings, a mummy of a child and a small polychrome glass vase.

The narrative concerning Marah (Exodus 15: 22 – 25; Number 33: 8-9) states that the Israelites had been wandering in the desert for three days without water. On reaching Marah, which had water, but it was undrinkable bitter, hence the name, which means bitterness. On this account they murmured against Moses, who, under divine direction, cast into the fountain “a certain tree” which took away its bitterness, so that the people drank of it.

Elim (Exodus 15: 27 and Numbers 33: 9) is a place where “there were twelve wells of water and seventy date palms“.

Mount Sinai (also known as Mount Horeb or Gabal Musa), a mountain in the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt that is a possible location of the biblical Mount Sinai. Mount Sinai is mentioned many times in the Book of Exodus and other books of the Bible. The biblical Mount Sinai was the place where Moses received the Ten Commandments from God.

Mount Sinai Sunset Climbing. Most people can complete the trek in about 4 – 5 hours, two hours on a relatively easy camel track, and one to two hours on a more challenging set of uneven stone steps.

To prepare for your hiking up Mount Sinai, we would suggest that you bring the following:

  1. A hiking stick – It is helpful on the way up and down to prevent slipping/falling. (Renting from the shop at the hotel @ USD 1 each)
  2. Torchlight – it is better to get your own head torchlight. If you did not bring your own torch, hand-held torchlights are readily available for rent @ USD 1 each.
  3. Due to security and safety reason, we insist you take Camel Ride until the Camel shelter.
